Make a Difference

Tonight, Elaine S. Dalton, the Young Women General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spoke to young women across the world and asked them to arise and shine forth. [Watch broadcast here.] She pleaded with them to avoid sin, maintain their focus, and remember that God lives. I was touched by her love for the young women and the tears that she shed in their behalf.

One thing that she said really stood out to me: "If you desire to make a difference in the world, you must be different from the world." I knew right away that this was something I want to teach my own daughter as she grows into a young woman.

How can we be different from the world? We can be righteous, loyal, honest, virtuous, dependable, and charitable; we can refuse to follow the manipulative ways of the media and choose to be modest and pure; we can seek to bless the lives of people around us without desire for personal attention or gratification; and we can teach our friends and neighbors about the light that we carry–the Light of Christ.

I urge the young women of the Church (and anyone else who desires the same goal) to put this printable in their rooms, in their lockers, or on the mirrors in their bathrooms. I pray that each precious spirit will be the one who makes a difference in their world.
