I Like Daddy Best

I have one name that I call my father: Daddy. Seems silly, considering I'm a grown adult with my own children, but that's what I have always called him. When I'm joking around with my dad, sometimes I call him "Papa Bear" or "King Dumb" (big inside joke--just laugh), but whenever I need him, it's Daddy.

I also refer to my husband as Daddy when I'm talking to my daughter. She currently calls him "Dada" and I love it!

Across the world, fathers are celebrated on different days, and not just in the month of June. I had no idea how many different countries had days similar to the Father's Day I have always known and loved! (See here.) I think that Heavenly Father inspired people everywhere to honor and celebrate the men who lead and protect our homes and families.

I thought it would be interesting to see what the translation was for "father" in other languages across the world, since our celebration of fathers will take place in one week! Here are the some of the words for father that I found: ojciec, missier, ata, otec, vader, far, papa, pare, pai, athair, pai, dada, iso, pops, cha, dad, padre, ayah, vater, ama, baba, bapa, otac, atai, apa, tad, patro, and páre. Fun, huh?

Our Savior, Jesus Christ, referred to his immortal Father in Heaven as "Father." We read in the Bible that during one of the most important acts in history, the Atonement, Christ said, "... Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." He loved His Father, and I know that His Father loved Him as well.

There are two versions of today's printable: one with all the translations of "father" and one without. If "Daddy" is your favorite name for your father, grab a free printable now! If not, let me know what you like better, and I'll see what I can do for you. ;) (Don't forget there are lots more free Father's Day printables here on LDS Printables - just click "Father's Day" in the labels at the bottom of the page! I'll be doing a round-up in a few days too!)

Do you have any special names for your father?

ALSO, I thought I would share something really cool! My friend Katie is a woman of great faith and character, and has a beautiful blog called The Terpblog. She contacted me and asked if I would help design some free printables for a series she is doing this summer called "Memory Verse Mania." She found 12 different scriptures from the NIV Bible that she wants to teach her children this summer. There is even a chart to mark off when the verse has been memorized! Check out her post here and watch for 12 free printables in the next few weeks! I think this is an awesome idea and I'm so excited to be partnering with Katie on this project. Head on over to The Terpblog and link up with Katie for this great learning opportunity!
