As the 4th of July quickly approaches, I have been making plans with friends and family to celebrate the day of our American independence. In all the hype of barbeques and soccer games and travel, I almost forgot that the United States is a free land because of those who have fought for us. Thank you, soldiers. You are in my prayers and I am forever in your debt.
I found a beautiful scripture in the Book of Mormon that highlights the glorious promises of this free country: "Behold, this is a choice land, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ..." (Ether 2:12).
Along with gratitude for those who serve and have served, we must also not forget the importance of worshiping and serving the God of this land, our Savior, Jesus Christ. I am grateful that He has granted us this free and beautiful place to worship Him.
How are you celebrating your 4th of July?
