Pray, He is There

My husband and I recently got an unofficial calling in our ward to teach the 3-4 year old Sunbeams for the summer, and we absolutely love it. Our little Sunbeams are dynamic, smart, and busy. Most importantly, they are innocent and pure, and we have the great blessing of teaching them about how much their Heavenly Father loves them.

As we have been singing Primary songs with them at church and teaching those songs to our nursery-aged daughter at home, I have learned more and more about how much God cares about each one of us. I know that we are His children, and the first time I heard our Primary sing "I Am A Child of God," I was filled with the Spirit, confirming to me that it is true. We are children of a loving, merciful, all-powerful Father in Heaven, and He has a purpose here for us.

One of my favorite Primary songs is "A Child's Prayer." The first verse is a child asking God if He is really there, then remembering that the scriptures teach that Christ invited the children to come to Him. The second verse is an adult (mother, father, teacher, etc.) speaking to the child, telling them to pray because Heavenly Father is there, and He is listening to them:

Pray, he is there;
Speak, he is list’ning.
You are his child;
His love now surrounds you.
He hears your prayer;
He loves the children.
Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heav’n.

As a Primary teacher and mother, it is my divine duty to teach the children in my stewardship of these great truths. Each child in my care should know that they are loved, that their prayers can be heard and answered, and that they can return to live with Heavenly Father again after this life.

So often, life seems to "pour down" on us. Trials come, heartache abides, and it is easy to feel like we are alone or hopeless. This inspired Primary song reminds me that no matter how tough life gets or how much I get "rained" on, I can pray and know that my Heavenly Father loves me and that He is there in the rainstorms I will face.

I am so grateful for these truths. I am grateful for the knowledge that no matter how old we get, we are still His little children.

What are some ways that prayer has gotten you through the rainstorms of life?
